BOARD OF FIFTEEN
The activities of the Union Debating Society are supported by a committee of St Andrews students, known as the Board of Fifteen.
Elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) each spring, all members contribute to a specific facet of the running of the society and are dedicated to the continued success of the society as a whole.
All of our committee members are available to contact via email for information about the society or their various positions.
PRESIDENT & CONVENOR
The President and Convenor is the Chair of the Board of Fifteen, and also serves as the SSC Debates Officer for the St Andrews Students' Association. They are responsible for general oversight of the society and organising public debates. They also chair all of the formal debates in Lower Parliament Hall.
The current President and Convenor is Zaine Mansuralli. Zaine is a fourth year reading History.
The Treasurer is responsible for managing the society's accounts, overseeing finances, and organising sponsorship for the society.
The current Treasurer is Malcolm Risk, a fourth year reading Mathematics.
The Speakers Secretary is responsible for organising our public debates and events, as well as our internal debate competitions for students in St Andrews.
The current Speakers Secretary is Emiliana Wood, a third year reading Economics and Social Anthropology.
CLERK TO THE HOUSE (SECRETARY)
The Clerk is responsible for the minutes of both board and Public Debates. They type and submit these minutes to be recorded in our uninterrupted minute book stretching back to the founding of the society in 1794.
The current Clerk to the House is Oliver Roberts, a fourth year reading History.
Viren Beruwalage & Mac Cheminais
The Chief Whips are responsible for running training sessions on Wednesday afternoons and Monday evenings as a means of bettering our competitive teams as well as gaining interest among new debaters. They also organise trials for the international tournaments we attend.
The current Chief Whips are Viren Beruwalage, a 4th year reading Economics and Mac Cheminais, a 3rd year reading Economics.
The Inter-Varsity Secretary is responsible for organising speakers and judges to represent St Andrews at competitions across the country and the world. They also represent the society to the Scottish Students' Debating Council and they convene the annual St Andrews Open and other university competitions in St Andrews.
The current Inter-Varsity Secretary is Louisa McDonald, a 2nd year reading Philosophy.
The Equity Officer is responsible for organising training on discussing sensitive topics and discussions around equality. They also serve as the Internal Equity Officer at competitions in St Andrews and work to help ensure debaters from disadvantaged and minority backgrounds are included within society activities.
The current Equity Officer is Cat Martin, a 2nd year reading Philosophy.
The Schools Convenor is responsible for organising our annual schools debating competition, St Andrews Schools. They also assist the Schools Outreach Officer with outreach projects,

SCHOOLS OUTREACH OFFICER
Roberto García Martínez
The Schools Outreach Officer is responsible for the society's work in outreach and development of debating at local schools.

Mark Perry & Andrew Longworth
The Communications Secretaries are responsible for publicising the events and the activities of the society to the student community.
The current Communications Secretaries are Mark Perry, a 4th year studying Ancient History and Andrew Longworth, a 2nd year Studying Economics.
STEWARD TO THE HOUSE (SOCIALS)
The Steward is responsible for the social life of the society. They plan numerous events and dinners throughout the year and serve drinks before Public Debates each week.
The current Steward to the House is Brooke Siegler, a 4th year reading International Relations and Middle Eastern Studies.
James Langmead and Lewis Christopher O'Neill
The Serjeant-at-Arms sits to the Convenor’s right during formal debates and is charged with their safety and well-being. They are ably equipped for this, armed with the Union Debating Society’s sword, Bessie. They are also responsible for alumni relations and the society’s clothing orders.
James Langmead is a 2nd year reading History and Lewis Christopher O'Neill is a 2nd year reading French and International Relations.
The Freshers' Representative is responsible for representing the views of novice debaters to the Board of Fifteen and organising events to encourage new debaters to get involved with the activities of the society.

PARENTS OF THE HOUSE
Anna-Ruth Cockerham & Toni Valencia
The Parents of the House are appointed by the President and act as symbols of the “spirit” of the house. The position is honorary and non-voting and is awarded to someone who has greatly served the Union Debating Society in the past.
Anna-Ruth is a 4th year reading Mathematics and Toni is a 4th year reading Economics & International Relations.
